Age / Age of Appearance: 62
Gender: Male
Servant: George Stephenson (Rider)
Affiliation: Independent (formerly Church)
RP Sample:
Personality:
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Likes:
- Fine: ”The way I like my food, art, music and women. A good word, that it is. A fine word for a fine lifestyle. I don’t think the Church quite agreed, though.”
- Smoking: ”A fine way to pass the time. Don’t be worried about it killin’ me - I replaced these old lungs a looooong time ago. They’re as stern as steel now. Well… that’s because they are. Steel, I mean.”
- Steel:”It takes a stronger man than me to resist his callin’. Steel is like my lifeblood at this stage. Couldna live without it.”
- The Church:”They’re good folks, them clergy. Well trained and dependable. Mostly. Not the kinda life I wanna live out, though. I’m just gonna go wherever my rails take me.”
- Freedom:”I may like the Church, but they’re a little too… straight-laced. Ironic, comin’ from a railwayman - but I prefer to live a little more freely. More fun that way.”
- Family:”It’s important! Past, present and future. I have a responsibility to those after me, and a debt to those before me. I’ll get around to fulfilling my duty to the both of them - eventually. Let a man have his fun first.”
- Honesty:”I may be a liar - but I don’t like bein’ lied to. I don’t take to kindly to those who are ‘economical with the truth, either. Tell me straight, and we can work through the damned mess together.”
Dislikes:
- Complexity: ”Keep the misdirection and subterfuge for your parlour tricks and politics. I don’t wanna hear any of it.”
- Illusory Magic: ”You think you can be a great Magus with some smoke and mirrors? Grow up, and learn some real Magic.”
- ’The Root’:”Call me a heretic or whatever, but I don’t see the point. Greater men than me have wasted their lives lookin’ for that thing. All I want to do is provide for my descendants - and who can blame me for wantin’ a bit of a good time on the side. Leave the “Root Finding” to those Clock Tower bibliophiles.”
- Mages Association:”I kinda see them as the antithesis to the Church. Scurryin’ about in their Clock Tower, doing no good for no-one but themselves. Let them scurry, I say. And the rest of us can soldier on.”
- Cars:”Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the advances in technology. It’s just that… travel sickness is a pretty big issue for me. I hafta take the train or something, those cars are just a little too bumpy for my likin’.”
- Sloth:”Call me old fashioned, but the best measure of a man is his willingness to work. Anythin’ less than a hundred percent is a sign that he’s not worth your time. If he can’t tough it out, make him go home.”
- Glasses:”I regret every night I spent reading those Church books in dim candlelight. The wouldna even provide me with a magic lamp. And now look where I am. I won’t demand compensation, but I do wish I could get that time back.”
- Wasting Time:”I don’t count hours - but I do know there’s a lota them I’d like back.”
Habits:
- Disassembling: Duke is not a man who will idly accept that something “just works”. Any mechanical device requires a full strip-down, a complete analysis of its innards - and an accompanying inspection to ensure he understands the mechanisms perfectly. Time-consuming, sure. But that kind of knowledge is never wasted.
- Hoarder: Duke’s pockets are weighed down with nearly a kilogram of scrapped Steel. Anything he can salvage is added to his collection - a more practical hobby than anything else, given the nature of his Magic Crest, Origin and Affinity.
- Collector: Though he collects trinkets and baubles, he is a man of fine taste. His humble abode in rural England belies the huge collection of fine art, wine and literature held inside.
Flaws:
- Drinker: Duke is partial to the odd glass of fine wine. Well, less like odd, and more like “many glasses of fine wine”. And less like “partial” and more like “dependent on”. At least he’s got good taste, though.
- Footloose: Although he has a home in England, he doesn’t have any particular attachment to his home country. He originally joined the Church to travel
- Collector: Though he collects trinkets and baubles, he is a man of fine taste. His humble abode in rural England belies the huge collection of fine art, wine and literature held inside.
Fears:
- Death (Meaningless): Duke looks like a man who lives without a care, but he is in the midst of a somewhat delayed mid-life crisis. Unsure what he’s trying to achieve - aside from making back his lost time - he lives life looking for a purpose. But the idea of dying before achieving that - well, it’s probably not something that bears thinking about.
- His Daughter: His forgotten child, he has no idea who or where she is. Another thing stolen from him by his own carelessness. He would not be surprised if she was hunting him as he idled - looking for revenge on the father who had cruelly abandoned her.
- The Holy Grail: Duke pursues the Grail out of desperation - he realises that only its miracle powers can undo the curse placed on him by the Church. But he is not a fool. He knows the legends of the Grail, he knows it might not give him what he wants. But it’s his only chance left.
Goals:
- Reclaim his Time: He may look like a man who messes around, but Duke pursues one goal tirelessly. To remove the curse that seals away his memories of his time in Japan, to find out what happened that caused him to be removed from the Church. He may be a rogue Magus Master, but he will use the power of the Grail to take back what’s rightfully his - no matter how much it hurts him in the process.

Origin: Malleability

Magical Specialty: Metallurgy
A branch of magic often overlooked by those of the Mage’s Association - due to its rather mundane applications - the study of metals and their associated magics is a path that Duke has walked down for years. Shaping, controlling, manipulating metal. One of the central problems of metallurgy is something that troubled alchemists for years - the transmutation of the elements. Changing one metal to another, the classic example being lead to gold. But Duke has no such haughty aspirations - he focusses on the practical applications of his craft, a man who ‘disgraces’ his heritage by using his magic for ‘mundane’ tasks. But it gets the job done. No doubt about that.
- {Spell 1: Faraavo}Name: Faraavo
Rank: 0
Spell School: Metallurgy
Magic Crest: None
Incantation: None
Range: Personal
Area of Effect: N/A
Effect: Faraavo is a simple spell - it produce a molten metal composite from the fingers of the Caster. The metal is not of any particular substance, but is rather an alloy of the metals and minerals contained within the caster’s body. It cools extremely quickly when exposed to air, solidifying in the post after it was formed. It is not particularly hot or damaging, and flows from the fingers - so it cannot even be used as a projectile.
Limitations: Only small amounts of the composite can be produced, as overuse of this spell leads to mineral deficiencies in the caster’s body. Cannot be used if Caster is malnourished, or ill. A fully nourished caster may be only able to create about a tennis-ball's worth of material per post.
Overcharged Effect: Allows the caster to create the molten alloy from inanimate surfaces that they are touching. They are limited to producing the same amount as they would by themselves, however they do not need to draw on their own mineral reserves. - {Spell 2: Morfie}Name: Morfie
Rank: 1
Spell School: Metallurgy
Magic Crest: None
Incantation: One-Line Aria required, must contain the word “Metal” and must describe what the caster is trying to achieve with this Spell.
Range: Touch
Area of Effect: N/A
Effect: Morfie is as simple a metal-manipulation spell as it comes. It simply allows the user to manipulate any metal that they’re touching (if the metal was created by a spell, or by a Noble Phantasm - this Spell can only affect those items if they’re of equal or lower Rank than this Spell).
Limitations: The freedom of manipulation is limited by the structure and purpose of the existing metal. Metal that is already fully formed and part of structures, for example, can barely be moved - only warped slightly. Molten metal allows for the greatest degree of control.
Overcharged Effect: Allows the caster to warp even the sturdiest of metals within existing structures (unless said structure is a product of, or reinforced by, magic. In which case this Spell can only affect such items if they are of equal or lower Rank than this Spell. - {Spell 3: Entolie}
Name: Entolie
Rank: 4
Spell School: Metallurgy
Magic Crest: None
Incantation: “Fervor Mei Sanguis”
Range: Close
Area of Effect: Medium
Effect: Entolie is a natural extension of Morfie, granting the user much greater control over the molten metal that surrounds them. While inert, the molten metal affected by this spell remains in a spherical ball at the side of the caster. However, with mental commands the caster can control and shape the metal into any form they can imagine. This spell does not produce any additional metal, but instead shapes and controls the metal around the user.
Limitations: The molten metal is not hot, just kept fluid by the user’s magic circuits. This is not designed to purely offensive technique, and is instead focussed on utility and defence. Any offensive uses of this technique result in the attacks being treated as Rank 2.
Overcharged Effect: Heats the metal, as well as allowing it to be shaped. Contact with the metal will cause Rank 3 burns.
