Michael’s First Letter to the Pope
Holy Father,
I write to you today in search of answers. Why do you dare to invite our enemies into our order? By my faith I know that you cannot err, but I do not understand your actions. I beseech you. Please guide my hand that I stray not from the path of righteousness.
This letter I write to you concerns the newest member of the Assembly of the Eight Sacrament. They come to us with the claim that they have forsaken the Mage’s Association. Those devils are our sworn enemies, and they are obviously right to forsake them, but surely they are a spy. Why would any member with any degree of promise willingly leave that organization and join ours? Do you think that they have seen the errors of their way and seek penance?
It all seems too unlikely to me. I am hopeful that I am merely overcautious in these uncertain times, as I know I must have missed something since you have already decided to admit them. Is it because of our solemn vow to protect mankind? No, it surely cannot be that. That wouldn’t require allowing them to join our ranks. Could it be that they were a double agent all along, and now it is too dangerous?
Pray forgive my ramblings Holy Father, but my mind is a violently churning sea of late, and the arrival of this newcomer is but another storm in already troubled waters. As always, I shall follow your orders until my body breaks and my mind is no more, but I must know our reason for allowing this former magi to join us. Do you wish us to interrogate them for the secrets of the Mage’s Association? Do we trust them with our lives on the field of battle against the demons summoned by their former friends? Do we merely welcome them with open arms as a brother in arms and faith?
Holy Father, I am weak. I know not how to deal with a matter like this. Humbly I submit to your infallible guidance. Please show me the way to salvation.
Yours in faith,
Michael Covington
