Basic Info:
Name: Duo Maxwell
Aliases: Shinigami, Death, Grim Reaper
Age / Age of Appearance: Unknown / 16-17
Gender: Male
Master: Georgia "George" Hazzard
Servant Class: Lancer
Affiliation:
RP Sample: He wasn't terribly sure about the specifics or even origin, but Duo was painfully aware that there was definitely something suspicious about the cardboard box. Sitting on the floor, he felt the damn thing was mocking him with its feigned innocence. No label, pristine condition, and an almost obsessive placement of tape. Clear tape, it was packing tape. Someone had put thought into this container, and then left it where he would undoubtedly find it. He wasn't afraid of it, but he was being cautious. Objects of unknown origin exploding in his face wasn't exactly a favored pass-time, despite the frequency of such events in his lifetime. Still, he was too damn curious. He had to open the box. Even if it exploded in his face.

Personality Summary: Outwardly, Duo seems like he's the farthest thing from Death as possible. He's overly positive, friendly and perhaps even a little flighty sometimes. Everything about him, at first glance, screams immature and unreliable. He also enjoys helping people, in quiet ways that generally don't go unnoticed. Frankly, he loves humanity, despite the many and overwhelming flaws that comes with humans. Ironically, he also loves life and enjoying every bit of it as he can. He's the kind of guy who will stop when he sees a child crying and talk to them, soothe them and even try to help. He'll stop and help someone who has dropped something, or even small things like holding the door for someone. And always with a beaming smile on his face. While many would call his outward personality a mask, Duo would disagree. He is both Duo and Shinigami, both are his true selves and neither is a cover. Alternatively, the side of his personality he calls Shinigami is very much that; it is Death. That face is what he came with, Duo just happened to show up, growing into him as much as anything the more time he spent around humanity. And Shinigami is truly a terrifying thing; it is the Duo who can reap souls and condem entire civilizations to ruin. It is the part of him that cleans up after genocides, but guides terrified children to their peace. He has no issue taking lives, and this facet of him is the reason many fear the afterlife.

Noble Phantasm Appearance:
Overall Ability: Shinigami, the scythe Duo carries is indicative of his legend. While the scythe cannot reap souls like in many legends, it does have a vampiric ability; allowing Duo to drain the life or mana from his enemies in order to bolster his own. The scythe also allows him to draw the lifeforce from flora and fauna around him as another method to strengthen himself. The ultimat ability of Shinigami allows him to sacrifice his own lifeforce to bolster his magical abilities.
Noble Phantasm Property 1: "Reap" is Shinigami's continuously-active ability to leech the very life and soul out of its targets. When Duo successfully lands a hit on a target, friend or foe, he gains two benefits. The benefit depends on the amount of damage he inflicts. If Duo inflicts a minor wound, he has a minor wound healed on his own body and regains 50 mana. For a moderate wound he heals a moderate wound, and regains 100 mana. For a major wound he heals one of the same on himself and gains 200 mana. If Duo manages to kill a target with Shinigami, he will be restored to perfect condition in both health and mana. Mana gained this way can exceed the limit that he can normally generate on his own. Excess mana is lost when he sleeps. The final restriction is that the target must have mana for this property to work fully. Without mana, a living human can only heal a single minor wound and restore 50 mana ever. This is a Rank A property.
Noble Phantasm Propert 2: "Raze" is Shinigami's activated-type ability to sentence all weak lifeforms in an area to death. When activated, by [swinging the scythe in a sweeping motion] and calling out the name of the Noble Phantasm, all lifeforms within 100 meters without significant reserves of mana (meaning any normal humans with no magical circuits as well as animals and plants) begin to wilt away. They perish in an instant, and their vital energy rushes to Duo to reinvigorate him. The effect varies based on how much he absorbs with this property, but it should be noted that he can choose to exclude targets if he wishes. Regardless of the outcome, this property has a four post cooldown before it can be used again.
This is a Rank A property.
Noble Phantasm Property 5: "Barter" is a bit different than the others. This allows Duo to sacrifice his own life energy to increase his power. Once per post Duo either recieves a new minor wound or increases the severity of an existing wound by one category, up to a maximum of major. This property will not kill Duo. It will only make a new wound if there is not an existing one to expand. In exchange for this, Shinigami pushes Duo to greater heights, increasing [stat] by 25. This is a Rank A property, and it remains active so long as Duo is willing to take the damage.

Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Likes:
- Mechanics/Engineering: He is fond of creating as an opposite to his role in the universe. But living things tend to bore him, if he can even keep them alive. Machinery is a happy medium, he enjoys creating and repairing anything mechanical. Engines tend to be a favorite of his, and he thoroughly enjoys the life machines have on their own. Far different from organic life, machinery brings him contentment where very little else has.
- Reading: He may not be much of a writer himself, but he was absolutely enthralled the day humanity started using written text as a way to record and communicate information. Now, in modern day, he reads anything he can get his hands on, no matter the topic or form of text.
- Music: Another delightful discovery of humanity that he adores is music. Any and all music, but he’s grown quite fond of the heavy metal and rock genres as of late.
- Space: Duo has an innate fascination with outer space. The cold depths and inability to sustain organic life outside of protected areas brings him comfort. He may or may not be a deep font of information regarding everything he can get his hands on regarding the topic.
Dislikes:
- Cowardice: Death is inevitable for all organic creatures, and those who try to elude or con their way out of their fate bothers Duo. He understands the fear of the unknown, but he also considers death as much more positive thing than most modern humans consider. Frankly, he misses the cultures that embraced and celebrated death, be it in valor or age.
- Genocide: Contrary to popular belief, he does not celebrate all death. Humans taken before their time, for needless reasons, is disgusting to him. And genocide is the worst, because it is often based in narrow and ignorant views in humanity
- Torture: Duo entertains very few good reasons for torturing, and excessive and needless use of the practice bothers him a great deal.
Habits:
- Music: Music plays an incredibly important role in his life, considering some of the original uses of music were heavily tied to death. Even now humanity uses music in many ways tied to death and the afterlife, and listening to music gives him a sense of peace.
- Reading: Again, reading is something he partakes in frequently. He almost always has something he’s reading stashed on his person.
- Hair: Maintaining his braid and the weak link of magic that keeps the tip burning is something of a ritual for him. Cleaning for it, caring for it and braiding it are repetitive tasks that ease his mind and spirit.
Flaws:
Intolerance for willful ignorance: People who are given the opportunity to learn and grow but refuse to educate themselves despite the opportunity and then push their ignorance upon others is something that will cause Duo to lose his cool in particular situations.- Hyperactivity: He has an often annoying level of energy and an endless font of it to boot. This tends to cause problems when he cannot slow himself down or if he forgets the volume of his voice.
- Obnoxiously cheerful demeanor: Being far too happy and positive tends to bother a lot of people, considering who he is. They tend to expect gloomy, even morbid, moods from him. But he rather likes living around sunshine, rainbows and the occasional unicorn.
Fears:
Humanity “cheating” death: While he does understand, to some extent, the fear of death and unwillingness to leave behind a life one knows, he is also painfully aware that humanity was not designed to live forever or even unnatural spans of time. The implications of such actions do far more harm than good.- Needless genetic engineering: Designer babies, and the idea that humanity can craft the perfect human, is abhorrent to him. Even coding out illness and disease bothers him a bit.
