[attr="class","paracontentfull"]Androgynous Asian would probably be the best two-word phrase to describe Kamikawa Hibiki. His face fits this bill especially well. Overall, there is just enough fat on his face that the sharply masculine lines of his face are smoothed out, but not so much that his face appears to be heavy-set. Hibiki has undergone a treatment that prevents him from growing facial hair, so he is never burdened by stubble. His neck is longer than average which gives him a certain elegance of appearance. A lightweight pair of silver-framed sunglasses with purple lenses rest on his ears and the bridge of his nose, hiding his almond eyes. Hibiki’s hair is one of the more noteworthy aspects of his facial appearance. The shaggy golden mane on his head is slightly more masculine than the rest of his face, but could still be mistaken for a modern woman’s haircut from behind. The back of his hair is relatively straight and hangs down to the midpoint of his neck. The front and sides are characterized by a series of slender blonde spikes which help to toughen up his look slightly. His bangs are equally jagged, with the center and side portions hanging down between his brown irises. The bangs over each eye are trimmed just enough that they will never run the risk of hitting his eye, but they still do a nice job of hiding his brows. Below the neckline, the androgyny fades away into masculinity. Hibiki’s body is a firm, shapely mass of muscles, but he does not have the bulky appearance that many muscular men achieve. Standing at five feet eleven inches tall and weighing only 160 pounds, he is far from intimidating in the eyes of most soldiers. There is virtually no fat on his body, but his muscles are not perfectly defined. His shoulders, back, and chest are all flat rather than bulging with muscle. The muscles in his abdominal region are clearly visible, but not to the degree that you would call them a six-pack. They more resemble what you would expect to see on an athletic woman than a male soldier. His legs are clearly not flabby, but they are not rock-solid either. His tan skin is smoother than one would expect of a fighter, and it often even has a bit of a radiant glow to it. No doubt this is from some kind of product. Men are not simply born with the smooth, light brown skin that Hibiki appears to be blessed with. On top of his skin, the outfit he wears changes on a daily basis. The outfit he is wearing tends to determine the overall androgyny of his appearance. Some of his outfits clearly mark him as a man, while others hide his form well enough that it becomes nearly impossible to tell what gender he is. There are a few normal outfits that he will wear repeatedly, but he is known to occasionally wear an outfit only once before donating it. The only time you can ever accurately predict Hibiki’s outfit is if he is being deployed to a battlefield or a squad meeting. For these situations, Hibiki will always change into his uniform if he has the time. On a lazy day, when Hibiki hasn’t done laundry or just wakes up late, he may sink as far as to don jeans and a t-shirt. His jeans are no Levi’s, but rather are of his own design. They have been washed in so much acid that their original light blue tone has faded to the point it is nearly white. Tears and holes mark the front section of the left thigh and right knee respectively. The stitching is relatively straightforward, but the back pockets are embroidered with a simple “U” design. The t-shirt’s design varies as often as the day, but they are usually sporting a brightly colored abstract pattern. The shirt and jeans are fitted to hug Hibiki’s body closely, so there is little doubt that he is male when dressed like this. On days when Hibiki has enough time to get ready in the morning (this is no less than an hour), he will most likely be dressed in a suit that would make Al Capone proud. This outfit almost universally has a crisply starched and pressed white dress shirt worn over the top of a white tank top. A bright tie, usually red, yellow, or light blue stands as the focal point of the ensemble. The tie is tucked into a perfectly tailored suit. Hibiki has a large collection of suits, so the pattern and color vary, but he tends to prefer either black with a pinstripe or a gray glen-plaid design. Typically he will just wear a pair of black loafers with an outfit like this. When Hibiki is dressed in this fashion it is immediately apparent that he is a man. No woman could ever hope to pull off such a classic masculine image. Because of his fashion sense, Hibiki tends to stick out like a sore thumb. Whether it is the eccentric designs of a shirt or the horribly out-of-place suits, he is often the odd ball out among the group showing up for a briefing. In the world outside the walls of the Clock Tower, he is often not much better off. His casual looks can blend in decently well, but he always looks far too young to be wearing such well-tailored suits. The looks he gets while dressed up are often a mix of confusion and awe. Some think that he must have inherited the suit, but others notice the confidence he radiates. Those who notice this confidence correctly surmise that the clothes make the man, and Hibiki is always wearing some damn nice clothes.
[attr="class","paracontentfull"]The first impression one will probably get of Hibiki is that of classic 1920s gentleman. Hibiki is always dressed sharply, generally courteous, and is fiercely loyal to those he cares about. He is almost always on time and puts his responsibilities to others ahead of his own needs. It isn’t entirely uncommon to notice him humming along to a Sinatra classic as he walks down the street. His attention to detail is obvious in everything he does. Be it during a fight or the process of designing an outfit, the details are essential. This focus on the details is strong enough that Hibiki will occasionally lose sight of the big picture. If you run into Hibiki outside of his room then chances are he’s flirting with someone. In the evenings, the most likely place for you to find Hibiki is at one of a few watering holes around town. He generally prefers a nice restaurant to a bar, but will occasionally show up at the latter. While at one of these establishments, Hibiki’s time is primarily spent flirting with someone, but he usually remembers to grab a bite to eat. His style is generally to use chivalry, and treat people like they actually matter. He’s found that this is generally the easiest way to get someone in bed with him. For some odd reason, this progression of events from gentlemanly suitor to one-night stand perpetrator has had a tendency to keep Hibiki a single man. When he isn’t busy trying to hook up with someone, Hibiki is probably either working on a new design or brushing up on his fighting skills. If the current gig hadn’t panned out for Hibiki, he would definitely still be running his fashion boutique in Harajuku. The fashion world first called out to Hibiki when he got a job as a male model, and he has continued to pursue this to this day. Fashion is always a possible topic of conversation with Hibiki, but his opinions on the topic can be rather strong. If he disagrees with you about what looks good, you will know immediately. Between his flirty nature, appearance, and fashion sense, Hibiki tends to think of himself as a catch. He can come off as rather vain if his looks come in up in conversation. While he appreciates compliments, giving them out might not be the best idea. Diagnosing Hibiki with narcissistic personality disorder would probably be the first thing any psychologist would do after talking to him for five minutes. It isn’t unheard of for him to run late to an appointment because he spent too long staring at himself after getting dressed. Typically, he’ll apologize earnestly if he’s late, but in these cases the apology tends to derail into him complimenting himself far too much. Hibiki’s self-appreciation isn’t the only time he can be overly theatrical. If you get him excited about something then his gestures tend to become rather exaggerated. His tone of voice when excited has a certain energy about it that generally keeps others listening. Conversely, he tends to be a good listener when he isn’t overtaken by excitement. Hibiki is genuinely interested in his fellow magi’s well-being, and he understands that emotional well-being is a key part of mental health. While some healers only cater to the body, Hibiki does his utmost to cater to the body, mind, and spirit. Sometimes a simple, “How are you today?” asked with genuine interest can do more for a person than the most powerful healing spell. Unlike many magi, Hibiki doesn’t care about the victor of a battle. What matters more to him is that all his allies survive. Some would see his stance as cowardice, and some might even go as far as to call it treason, but those people matter little to Hibiki. The ones that mean the most are his comrades in battle, and if he prioritizes their lives over the mission, then the consequences can go right ahead and be damned. This type of attitude tends to get people in trouble, but Hibiki has managed to find this idea is far more acceptable in the Clock Tower than he first thought. Once you've saved enough heirs to ancient bloodlines they tend to forget almost everything else. Flattery is one thing that people notice comes from Hibiki with an almost alarming frequency. If he likes something about you, especially if it’s how you’ve dressed, then you will know right away. If Hibiki can’t find anything he likes about you, he might just make something up if you look like you’re having a bad day. Generally, Hibiki will openly discuss whatever is on his mind. This can be positive when he thinks highly of someone, but can also make him into a bit of an asshole at times. While Hibiki is often sincere, white lies are definitely within his repertoire. In most circumstances he will tell the truth, but if the truth would be painful, and serve no great purpose, then a white lie is called for in Hibiki’s eyes. Large crowds of people are a home away from home for Hibiki. Whether it’s a busy training ground or a crowded bar, he tends to be right at home with other people. The bar, however, tends to trigger problems. Hibiki has serious problems with alcohol, and with the idea that it is so commonly accepted despite being so dangerous. His father was a raging alcoholic and an angry drunk. To put it bluntly, Hibiki was beaten as a child, and he blames this entirely on the alcohol that had consumed his father. Because of this experience growing up, he tends to have an issue with drinking and anyone who partakes of alcohol for no good reason. To Hibiki, alcohol is just a pathetic attempt at trying to use a drug to become something that one is not. Despite this, he is more than willing to frequent bars, but he tends to look down upon the majority of patrons there. Hibiki is a strong supporter of legislation that would outlaw alcohol, but he doubts it'll ever get passed after the results in the states.

[attr="class","paracontentfull"] {Chapter 1: Birth}Kamikawa Hibiki was born in Hiroshima as a healthy baby boy on March first in the year 1982. This was quite possibly the only good thing to happen to him in the next ten years. His parents were inattentive at best, and abusive at worst. Kamikawa Masu, his father, was a raging alcoholic. It was generally considered a good day for Masu if his bar tab was actually paid in full. Kamikawa Hisa, his mother, was the primary breadwinner of the family. Her work at as a secretary at a local law firm kept her busy late into most nights, and her salary was just enough to make up for Masu’s hefty drinking bills. This arrangement meant that Masu was left in charge of Hibiki the majority of the time. Considering the fact that Masu happened to be an angry drunk this ended up resulting in near daily physical abuse. Hibiki learned from an early age that his parents were not there to protect him, and so he began to protect himself. Prior to entering school, this usually meant that Hibiki would just run away for a day or two at a time, only coming home because he was going hungry on the streets. His absences usually went unnoticed, since Masu was too drunk to care and Hisa usually just assumed that Masu had already put him to bed. Once Hibiki learned he was going to start going to school, he stopped running away. He no longer had to, because he thought school would be a place where he could find his happiness. {Chapter 2: Elementary School}Hibiki has been wrong about many things in his life, but his childhood idea that elementary school would be a good thing is possibly the farthest he has ever been from being correct. Even as a child, Hibiki was on the cute side. The problem here is that he was beyond cute. Hibiki just plain looked like a girl when he entered elementary school. His face was still full of baby-fat, and his parents didn’t figure a haircut was worth the money. Being on the receiving end of insults about his feminine appearance became the norm for Hibiki pretty rapidly. The only solace Hibiki found in his earlier years of school was the sole friend he managed to make. Sato Hana was the shy girl in the corner of the first-grade classroom that never talked to anyone. Her silence was broken after watching Hibiki enjoy a month of bullying at the hands of her classmates. She found him hiding under a jungle gym during recess. All she offered was one word, “Hello.” The intention in her voice was clear though. Hana did not come there to torment Hibiki. The high-pitched sounds carried no ill intent as far as Hibiki could tell. Instead, they were full of some emotion he was unfamiliar with. Her single utterance held more kindness in it then Hibiki had ever known before. From this one word, a beautiful friendship blossomed. Hana never spoke much to Hibiki, but it mattered little. For the first time in his life, Hibiki had someone that would listen to him. Their friendship grew into a seemingly unbreakable bond as time passed. Hana’s company was enough to keep Hibiki from sinking into the despair that ought to have consumed him by now. He was never accepted by his classmates and the abuse from his father never stopped. All that kept him going was his friendship with Hana. {Chapter 3: Middle School} Hibiki's life was not without its happy moments, even if some of those moments were happy for rather unusual reasons. The single happiest moment in all his life occured at 3:35pm on March 1, 1995. This day was Hibiki's birthday, but he only received a single present. This was unusual, since Hibiki normally received quite a few from his mother, even if most of the packages were full of sweaters and new underwear. What made this birthday stand out the most was that his present was not even wrapped, and it would have been absurd to ask anyone to do so. 3:35 was so special, because that was the specific minute at which Hibiki arrived home from school. He had walked home from school, as always. Hibiki unlocked the door, stepped inside, and called out, "I'm home father!" His voice was unusually happy as he announced his return, but it made sense as his birthday was one of the only days he actually looked forward to. Normally, Hibiki was greeted by a rather depressing sight when he got home. Normally, it was just a drunken father either passed out in his recliner, or awake and actively pouring vodka down his throat. Today, it was a far more disturbing sight. Hisa was home as well, but clearly not by choice. It took Hibiki several moments to take in the scene taking place in his family's living room. Hisa was tied to one of the dining room chairs with a rope. Masu was dressed in nothing but a pair of boxers and was holding a bottle of whiskey in his left hand. The whiskey was not unusual by itself. No, the part that made Hibiki stand silently in the doorway for so long was the fact that Masu was holding a gun in his other hand. Several minutes passed as Hibiki stood still and hoped that if he didn't move, that the situation would just stay like this forever. Perhaps, if he never moved, Masu's finger wouldn't ever touch the trigger. But Hibiki did move, and so did Masu. A single sneeze from Hibiki seemed to press play on his world's remote. Masu instantly turned to him and began screaming. "Oh great, the family's all home now! Now at least you'll know that your birth is the reason I drink, and the reason I can't stand this fuckin’ planet anymore!" Masu spun around to face Hisa and fired two rounds into her head. The gun's next target was not Hibiki, but Masu's own head. Masu's final words were, "You aren't even worth a bullet you little piece of shit. Your birth was the worst thing to ever happen to this family!" Most children would be completely destroyed by watching a scene like this. Hibiki was not like most children in this regard. He was normal in many ways, but his reaction was one of joy rather than one of loss. For the first time, Hibiki's life would not be controlled by his alcoholic father. For the first time, Hibiki had a chance to be truly free. It was the best birthday present money could have bought. Of course the death of his mother was rather traumatic, but it was overwhelmed by elation at his father not being present anymore. Hibiki had already been forced to grow up faster than most children his age since he had been forced to take care of himself for several years now. He handled the situation calmly and proceeded to the local police station where he reported the details of what had happened to the officer on duty at the desk. The officer was startled by Hibiki's calm demeanor, but began the essential step of filling out the required paperwork to put Hibiki into the adoption system. For a few months, Hibiki was placed into the foster care of a local couple. He was adopted that summer by Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jenkins. The Jenkins were residents of Detroit, Michigan, and were visiting Hiroshima while on holiday. Hibiki flew back to America with them to begin his new life as an American. There were two details that made this transition far harder for Hibiki. First and foremost, he barely knew any English, so communication was challenging at best. Secondly, moving to America meant that he would never see Hana again. While losing Hana hurt him a good deal, the prospect of starting his life anew was easily enough to offset this. His Middle School years were relatively average by most people's standards. He tended to come off as rather shy, since he didn't care for speaking English much. Overall, he was an average student that was rather unremarkable during this part of his life. Hibiki couldn't have been happier with this. For the first time in his life, no one seemed like they had it out for him. That was good enough for him. {Chapter 4: High School} By the time Hibiki entered high school, his English was up to normal proficiency, but he spoke with a noticeable Japanese accent. Two years is generally considered to be a short time to learn a language, but complete immersion makes the process far easier. Hibiki was required to speak English at home with the Jenkins, and they spent a lot of time talking about themselves with him. Ronald was a practicing psychiatrist, and Linda (Mrs. Jenkins) was a homemaker. A large part of the reason that the Jenkins were allowed to adopt Hibiki was because of Ronald's background in psychiatry. Ronald was now running a private practice, but he was retired from a job with the military. The adoption agency had made quite a good choice in allowing the adoption to go through. Within Hibiki's first two years in the US, the daily English Lessons/Psychotherapy sessions had started to undo some of the damage that Hibiki's biological parents had done, while also helping Hibiki acquire English far faster than he might have otherwise. Rather than have Hibiki continue to go through Detroit's deplorable public school system, the Jenkins enrolled him in St. Johns, a private Catholic high school. While St. Johns offered a first-class education, it also mandated bible study as a core part of curriculum. While the bible study never bothered Hibiki, he did consider himself a Buddhist, so the class just seemed like a waste of time to him. Despite this he tended to do decently well since the material was fairly simple. He excelled in the arts and did above average in math as well as the physical sciences. On the other hand, he was slightly below average in English and came dangerously close to failing his history classes. Overall, his performance was slightly above average, but he was still a long way from any sort of academic award. The closest he came was when he won an art show by submitting some original fashion designs. Hibiki had a few good things going for him socially in high school. St. Johns was predominantly white, so he was the only Asian in his grade. Naturally, this made him an expert on all things Asian in the eyes of his peers. His looks were still rather androgynous, but he was finally growing into this look. After Hibiki managed to land a spot on the school's soccer team as a midfielder, he began to be accepted by the popular clique. Things in Hibiki's life were going well enough that he even began to smile. Sadly, Hibiki's newfound popularity lead him down a path full of questionable decisions. The popular clique's main difference from the rest of the school was that they were a party crowd. Freshman year, the parties were rather innocent. Those parties more resembled dozen person sleepovers than actual parties. Sophomore year however, was the year that the popular crowd collectively started to get their hands on alcohol and cigarettes. Even at a private Catholic high school the cool kids were still the ones who broke the rules, and there was hardly a bigger taboo to break than using drugs. Anytime that one of the popular kids’ parents went out of town, it was a good enough excuse for a party. They were usually decently rowdy, and more often than not, they ended up getting busted up by the police after someone complained about the noise. Above all the other parties, there was one that always stood out in Hibiki’s mind. This particular party took place towards the start of his Junior year. It stands out because it was both the first time Hibiki hosted a party, and it was also the night he lost his virginity. The party had been a gathering of some of the biggest names in the popular clique, and the Jenkins’ home had plenty of alcohol. Nasty lite beer was the usual for parties, but the Jenkins had better taste; their shelves were stocked with hard liquor. None of them were prepared for how fast the more potent drinks would intoxicate them. Within two hours of the party starting, about a third of the group was passed out, another third was vomiting, and the most sober third had paired up to make out on whatever surface was available. Hibiki had taken an especially attractive cheerleader back to his room, and, behind a closed door, things had gotten steamy. They’d had sex, but Hibiki hadn’t enjoyed himself. Well, that’s a partial lie; he enjoyed himself physically, but the experience wasn’t what he was hoping for. Overall, he left the experience feeling dirty and unsatisfied. He didn’t necessarily feel it was wrong, but rather he just felt like something was missing. Later, he would discover the missing part was an emotional connection, but that discovery would happen much later in his life. Nevertheless, Hibiki ended up dating this girl for a few months, but the relationship ultimately didn’t work out. After their relationship ended, Hibiki found himself slowly drifting away from the popular clique. He had reflected on the lifestyle choices that the popular clique tended to make, and he realized they were not something he wanted to be a part of. Alcoholism surely ran in his veins, and yet he was drinking as a teenager. He had a deep-seeded hatred of alcohol, but he had ignored that to be a part of the popular group. Every inch of him despised this path, and yet he had still done it. Ultimately, he had to admit to himself that one of his worst fears was true. He was slowly becoming an alcoholic, and ultimately, he was slowly turning into his biological father. {Chapter 5: Karate} Hibiki needed a new habit. He needed something, anything, that could displace his growing need to drink. He was tempted to just start smoking more, as he had already joined the popular crowd in that, but that didn’t seem like an attractive option. Instead, he began to work out. This was easily one of Hibiki’s better life choices. Working out slowly began to improve his confidence, physique, and his ability to be himself. Best of all (in his eyes), it was letting him prove he was nothing like his father. Slowly, Hibiki began to push himself in training his body. Considering that he had never really tried to push himself, he honestly wasn’t sure what he was capable of. Sure, soccer had required a bit of effort on his part, but he was good enough without really trying over there. He needed to find something physical that could challenge him, something that he could devote himself to. Having been unable to finder answers to his problems on his own, Hibiki brought up the desire for a new athletic hobby with his father in one of their counseling sessions. Mr. Jenkins was quick to suggest martial arts as a possibility. It seemed like it would be at least worth trying, so Hibiki began looking into local martial arts instructors. He eventually decided on a Karate school only a few blocks away. Admittedly, Hibiki chose Karate because it sounded cooler than the other martial arts. Hibiki was not what you would consider a naturally-born fighter. He was fit enough that athleticism was a non-issue, but mental discipline was a massive problem for him. Over the years of parting and being a part of the popular crowd, Hibiki had lost the understanding that others could be more important than him. He had issues with showing the proper amount of respect to his teacher at first. That problem was quickly rectified by sending a white-belted Hibiki into a sparring session with oldest students of the school. After receiving a through ass-whooping, Hibiki began to learn his place in the Karate school. As his studies of Karate progressed, and he distanced himself from the popular clique, his vain attitude slowly began to fade away. Once in his senior year, Hibiki had almost completely stopped talking to the popular crowd. Instead, his fellow students at the Karate school tended to make up his social circle. He spent most of his free time with his new friends sparring or working out. Due to this change in lifestyle, and his relatively high metabolism, Hibiki’s body rapidly became that of a fighter. His dedication to the martial arts was unusually high for someone his age. He saw it as a way to further distance himself from his biological father and alcohol. If he could just work out until he was too tired to lift his arms, then he wouldn’t be able to lift a glass of alcohol. Proving he was not his biological father was rapidly becoming his top goal at this point in his life. Karate was honing his mind (through meditation) as well as his body. Through this honing of his mind, he had begun to realize what he truly wanted in life. He wanted to be on the side of justice. He wanted to take the people that hurt innocents, and hurt them. He wanted to prove that he was nothing like his biological father. In order to become an ally of justice, he needed the strength to do something good in the world. To that end, he poured all his free energy into Karate. He dropped soccer, and his grades even started slipping a bit. By the time his senior year ended, most of Hibiki’s life revolved around Karate. He had managed to rise to the rank of red belt (one rank below black) in his year and a half of study. This pace was above average, but was still rather slow considering that most of his free-time was spent sparring or working out. With his insane level of dedication to Karate in mind, it’s almost miraculous that he actually managed to graduate high school. {Chapter 6: College} Post-graduation, work was substituted for school in Hibiki’s life. His adoptive parents insisted that he find some sort of work, but they didn’t require him to move out any time soon. Hibiki had no desire to work in a menial job. Fast food was out of the question, and retail was not something he wanted to touch with a ten-foot stick. Eventually, Hibiki managed to land a job as a male model. He considered the job to be rather degrading, but his physique meant he would be paid well. His time spent in pursuit of physical prowess over the last year-and-a-half meant that his androgynous face was now complimented by a well-toned body. Hibiki never made much of a name for himself as a model, but he continued to get work as the token Asian in fashion shows and catalogues. Aside from the racist reasons, Hibiki also had a look on his face that made him seem accessible. His face tended to glow with a certain warmth that women found alluring. He was the kind of guy who at first glance looked like a mild-mannered everyman, but he could give the worst of guys a blinker without breaking a sweat. During his time as a model, Hibiki managed to rack up quite a few nice outfits, and learned quite a bit about fashion. While his knowledge isn’t especially technical, he figured out the names of most basic patterns, types of stitches, and clothing types. His real expertise was in what looks good on someone. If you were to tell him what the event you’re going to is like, and show him your wardrobe, Hibiki can guarantee you’ll look outstanding when you get there. The year he spent as a model was probably the best time he ever had. Though that time was enjoyed while it lasted, it couldn’t go on forever. Truth be told the work didn’t pay that much, but that wasn’t the real problem with it. The real problem was that it lacked a sense of purpose. What had happened to all his desire to be a hero of justice and do something good with himself? Where had all that spunk gone? Hibiki didn’t know. When he had been thrust into the world of adulthood he lost himself once again. After much reflection he decided on a remedy. Being a hero was a childish dream. Getting ripped wouldn’t solve any problems. He needed to hone his mind. Hibiki filed an application to Johns Hopkins undergraduate program, with plans to eventually obtain an M.D. Compared to his earlier years, Hibiki’s time in college was rather unremarkable. He did well enough in his classes that grades were a non-issue and still managed to have enough time to enjoy himself on occasion. {Chapter 7: Mage’s Association} There was, however, one major important event that occurred within Hibiki’s time in college. That was a study abroad trip to London where he discovered something that no normal human did. While out for a stroll on the town, Hibiki managed to wander right into The Clock Tower. This was a feat that should have been utterly impossible. The Clock Tower is one of the most heavily warded places on the planet, but he just meandered on in with the intent to take pictures, just the same as if it were Big Ben. As one might imagine, he was captured almost instantly. Debate raged back and forth on what to do with the “invader.” Many thought he was a spy, but a few recognized him as the unlucky tourist that he was. The question of how he had been able to accomplish this without effort was raised, and it was eventually determined that this had been a result of his incredible magic circuits. By the sheer quality of his circuits Hibiki had been detected as a magus by the wards, rather than as a normal human. This conclusion did not sit well with all the members of the Mage’s Association. At this point in time a majority of the association was still focused on pedigree and heritage above practical matters. Hibiki had no magical heritage to speak of. His incredible potential was a mere fluke. Those who valued heritage above all else insisted that they merely wipe his memory of the place, drop him off in central London, and be done with it. A few voices proposed killing him was the safest option. In the end though it was the third idea that got the most traction. They should train him. Even with no background in magecraft his magic circuits were simply too valuable to waste. And so it was decided that Hibiki was to be forcibly inducted into the Mage’s Association. Refusal meant death… so he accepted. Besides, magecraft seemed pretty fuckin neat to him at the time, even if most of the people that taught him were entitled pricks. Not that different from college then. For the remainder of his schooling, Hibiki struggled to maintain a dual life. He refused to give up his goal of becoming a doctor, but also couldn’t turn away from the Mage’s Association. Though it nearly killed him from exhaustion on a daily basis, he endured long enough to both get his doctorate and learn magecraft. {Chapter 8: Chaldea}Plenty can be said of Hibiki’s history before the Sixth Grail War, but little of it matters to us today. He was raised in a home with an abusive father, ended up in foster care, and eventually made his way to The Clock Tower to study magic. Once there he found he had a talent like few others for healing magecraft and supportive spells. Hell, he even invented several of his own. Most of his feats within the Sixth Grail War don’t matter much either. All that really matters is what he did at the end. “By the power of my command spell I order you to self destruct.” Others had failed before, sure, but Hibiki had done his research. None before him had access to a Noble Phantasm with EX ranked power. The explosion was instant. Alloy Gundam disappeared into a blastwave of fire and force. The grail was surely destroyed. Little did he know those were the words that had brought the world to ruin. The next words he heard were: ”You, seven heavens clad in three words of power, arrive from the ring of deterrence, O keeper of the balance ―――! “ He found himself in a sterile white room with that felt very much like a surgical theater. As he glanced around at the surroundings he began to put two and two together in terms of where he might be and how he came to be there. What confused him the most was that he could come up with no other explanation for him appearing in this manner. He simply couldn’t deny the knowledge he found within himself. ”How the hell did I qualify to be a servant after that stunt? At least you got me the right class. Servant Cas...” And then he caught the eyes of his master. What kind of cruel joke was this? His master, the person who could order him to kill himself if they so chose, was none other than an old flame of his. Hibiki just stood there and could feel his charisma ranks slip away as he stared at Lucia Ignatia. ”Well well Caster, or should I say Doctor Kamikawa. Here’s a question for you. Did you know you have a daughter?” Their conversation continued for quite some time after that remark. Hibiki eventually came to grips with his existence as a Caster class Servant, but he would need plenty more time to work on him having a daughter. That was… well it wasn’t actually unexpected, but it wasn’t exactly welcome news in his book either. Given that Lucia had no intention to summon The Doctor in the first place, she relinquished her contract with him and left him to exist by the grace of MERS.

[attr="class","paracontentfull"]Hibiki is a support Magus at his core. His Origin and Affinity both lead him down a path of healing, which means that he does not naturally excel at attacking. While he is highly proficient in both Fire and Lightning Magecraft, his true calling is in the back lines of a fight. Before the Grail Wars, his specialty was squad combat, where he let other people take the front, and he ensured that none of them stayed down for more than a second. He was, after all, The Doctor. His role is to ensure that everyone else can keep fighting until the mission is done; this is true whether it was through healing, preventing damage, or battlefield analysis. When he is forced into one on one combat, he is a vaguely proficient martial artist (pending more grail shards). His body has been trained to levels that are in excess of what most humans can achieve, but his raw skill is just that, raw. His attacks are unrefined and thus he can be defeated in melee by most anyone with proper training. That said, he can sometimes be fast enough to completely overwhelm an opponent if they are only at the level of a normal human. What makes him fearsome when going mano-a-mano is that he is capable of mixing in single-action spells in the midst of his physical attacks. In the Era of the Grail War, Hibiki tends to work as a back line support for other Chaldean servants. Though he actually packs more of a punch than most do with his high-level magecraft, that costs him precious mana. Meanwhile, a fist to the face has only a very slight stamina cost. It makes sense for him to let the other servants do the fighting and simply keep them on their feet. If he sees an opening then he will attack, but typically Hibiki is merely on standby during the fights. His role is to perform the analysis and lead the fight while keeping "his" servant in one piece.
[attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Lore [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Before being summoned as a Caster, Kamikawa Hibiki was a fairly renowned surgeon. He had worked at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore as lecturer and practicing surgeon, but only after a stint in the fashion industry earlier on in his life. With his talents as a magus, Hibiki was easily able to perform surgeries that were deemed impossible by others. While he was a well known figure in the eye of the public, it was actually his supernatural talents writ large that were impressive enough to determine he should be a caster. Reikiji Byouin is the result of his personal magecraft that borders on magic. Within the Mage's Association his Reality Marble was known to all, and that had easily been enough to earn him a Sealing Designation. There was just one problem: within the realm of Reikiji Byouin, not a single soul could force him to yield. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Incantation [attr="class","paracontentfull"]I swear to fulfill this oath and covenant: My service honors those who taught me the arts of healing. I seek not fame, money, or influence. These hands exist only to heal the sick. I shall help all who look for my aid. Ne'er shall these hands draw blood, Unless it will prevent suffering. I stand unbreaking, A bastion for secrets told in confidence. By my unwavering oath shall mankind be saved! Rekiji Hitsu! / Reikiji Byouin! [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Mechanics [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Reikiji Byouin, the Spirit Cloth Hospital. That is the true name of Hibiki's Noble Phantasm. This Noble Phantasm requires a minimum of rank D to activate its powers, but its true form requires a minimum of Rank B to unleash. He can release at any rank he wishes, and can upgrade the rank he has activated his Noble Phantasm at by paying the difference between the current rank and the new one. He cannot reduce the rank for a refund though. His powers all for the spontaneous creation of Reikiji, a cloth imbued with magic circuits. These magic circuits within the Reikiji allow it to channel, interact with, and manipulate mana in various ways. Depending on how it is utilized, Reikiji can have a number of different effects, covered by the properties below. Given the nature of his Noble Phantasm, there is a continual strain on his mana reserves equal to one half the cost of the rank it is released at per post in place of the normal cost of properties 1-4. [Ranks E-B: Partial Release] The partial release of Hibiki's Noble Phantasm can be invoked with only a partial chant, This allows him the usage of his powers at up to Rank B, and a maximum of 4 sheets of Reikiji active at a single time. In this form he gains a roll of fabric strapped to his back such as in this image. All of the Reikiji he spawns literally roll off his back in this form. At this rank a single piece of Reikiji is six feet by four feet and he can create up to two sheets per post, up to a cap of four sheets total. [Ranks A-EX: True Name Release] While the lower ranked form may not be all that visually impressive, the true form of Hibiki's Noble Phantasm is a modern hospital. Well that's what the inside looks like anyway. The outside... does not exist, for this level of release by its True Name is a reality marble. The upper floors all contain various surgery facilities and patient rooms, while the lower floor is a massive open space (roughly 100 feet tall). A receptionist desk is in the middle of it, but it is otherwise rather barren aside from an elevator bank against the back wall and some front glass doors, both of which seems to always exist as close or as near as Hibiki wants them to. Should Hibiki will it, these rooms can be staffed as well, albeit by normal human doctors. He can configure this base floor to have some basic fixtures such as sitting areas, waiting rooms and the like, but it is typically barren if used in battle. At these ranks a single piece of Reikiji can be up to 24 feet by 24 feet in size, but can be made smaller if he wishes. There is no practical limit on the amount of sheets he can have active while within Reikiji Byouin. Sheets can exit back into the real world via the front doors, but he is limited to four sheets at once exiting his reality marble. [General Reikiji Abilities There are a few things that Hibiki can do with the Reikiji without utilizing any of the actual properties. After all, all we've really said so far is that he can make them, given a vague description of what they can do, and slapped a bunch of limits on them. Reikiji are controlled telekinetically by Hibiki. They can be moved at a speed equal to the rank that his Noble Phantasm is released at, and he possesses incredibly fine control over the fabric. Reikiji is also relatively hard to destroy. This is not because it is good at resisting damage, but because Reikiji can naturally divide itself into sections as small as one square foot anyway. So if you cut through it, congrats, it can just sew itself back together. Base Reikiji won't really stop you from slashing through it, but it does require complete destruction to make the sheet actually go away. [Limitations] Reikiji possesses virtually no mass, which means that all forms other than Tattersall cannot really resist physical force. Additionally, they cannot push people around or cause any injuries. All forms but Tattersall posses no enhanced durability and are effectively as strong as a really nice blanket. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 1 - Rank A - Red Cross [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Red Cross is the ability that Hibiki is best known for. This is one of the four patterns that Reikiji can be in. Reikiji with this pattern is emblazoned with the near universal symbol of the medic, the Red Cross. Any magical attack that impacts Red Cross will be channeled through the magical circuits within the Reikiji and have its properties changed. Assuming it does not outrank it will have its effect converted into a healing one. However it would normally deal damage it provides an equivalent type and amount of healing instead. A spell that punctures would heal stab wounds and a spell that burns would heal burns. Any spell of a rank at least equal to Red Cross will destroy the sheet, though equal rank spells will still be converted before the destruction is finished. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 2 - Rank C - Pinstripes [attr="class","paracontentfull"]The second pattern of Reikiji is thin red Pinstripes on a white background. These pinstripes are not perfectly straight, and often seem to fractally branch out along the surface of the cloth at sharp angles. Though it is an artistic representation, it bears a resemblance to the arteries of the human body. In this case, Hibiki is the "heart" that they are connected to. The magic circuits within Pinstripes Reikiji are linked to Hibiki regardless of the distance away they are. For all intents and purposes that he so wishes, Pinstripes Reikiji is equivalent to there being a hand in that location. To be explicit, this means that contact with Pinstripes counts as "touch" range for Hibiki, and he can channel spells and other uses of mana through Pinstripes. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 3 - Rank D - The Eye [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Third among the patterns of Reikiji is The Eye. This pattern is signified by black Eye of Providence, otherwise known as the all seeing eye. Like the others, this is of course on a white background. The Eye symbolizes the doctor's responsibility to monitor his patients and acts a mystical version of all the monitoring equipment that one would normally find within a hospital. The Eye extends Hibiki's senses of sight and hearing as if he was at the place The Eye is. In addition, The Eye allows him to know the general vital statistics of an individual. This does not mean their "stats", but rather things like blood oxygen levels and heart rate. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 4 - Rank A - Tattersall [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Last among the patterns of Reikiji is Tattersall. This pattern is signified by a series of blue grids interlaced over, you guessed it, a white background. Tattersall as a pattern is a bit less obvious than some of the rest. This pattern symbolizes the broader role of doctors in general. Doctors are a shield for humanity. They protect them from disease and death. Tattersall behaves in much the same way. It provides a shield against anything that would cause harm. Quite simply, Tattersall Reikiji has the same properties as a barrier spell of the same rank. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 5 - Rank E - Activated - Reikiji Change [attr="class","paracontentfull"]For the normal mana cost, Hibiki can change a sheet instantly to a new pattern. Typically this requires the destruction of one sheet and the creation of a new one. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 6 - Rank E - Activated - Reikiji Bindings [attr="class","paracontentfull"]This is a property that is purely cosmetic, as the practical effect could be accomplished with the Noble Phantasm's overall ability alone. By wrapping Reikiji around someone's body he can transform it into a proper outfit. Literally the only benefit of this property is to make it more stylish than making someone look like a mummy. The outfits vary considerably but here are some reference photos for each: Red Cross Pinstripes The Eye Tattersall [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Property 7 - Rank A - Passive - Complete Inversion [attr="class","paracontentfull"]This technique is only active, and thus the cost must only be paid, if the True Name Release is active. It is a passive property of the reality marble itself and cannot be utilized at lower ranks. Complete Inversion is quite simple. It applies the effects of Red Cross to all attacks that exist within Reikiji Byouin, provided they do not outrank it. This includes physical attacks.
