[attr="class","sectionheaderbg"] [attr="class","sectionheader"]//Character Progression [attr="class","paracontentfull"]One of the most important things to discuss in any story is the idea of character progression. It comes in many shapes and forms. A character may learn new techniques, acquire or refine a skill, or simply increase their raw power. Throughout the Infinite Grail War, a given character can rise from a fledgling magus that can barely cast a single spell into something worthy of being called a hero. In this section we will look at the various paths that a character can take, but first a quick note about starting weak versus starting strong. Yes, you can choose either. Starting stronger just has a bit higher requirements on the application. Some people just want a strong character immediately, but those who work hard to obtain their power will reach greater heights in the end. Stats can almost always be overcome by better writing, but the higher caps are a reward for all the work that those who start weak put in over the course of their journey. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Earning Grail Shards (AR) [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Grail Shards are rewarded for many different things, but the most common method of obtaining them is to write good posts! At the COMPLETION of a thread, a single grail shard is awarded to each player for every 2000 words they wrote. Anything that does not hit the next increment of 2000 words is carried over until their next thread is completed. If a player controls multiple characters in a single thread, they can choose which character gets the shards, as well as which character gets the excess word count carried over. Both of these can be split up as desired by that player. When a thread has been completed, please use the "report post" option on the first post in that thread with the reason being something like "Thread completed." It should be noted that incomplete threads offer no rewards. The only exception to this is someone in the thread vanishes entirely, for at least one month, and it is unknown if they will ever reply. In that case, rewards will be given to the remaining player(s). Other shards may be awarded by staff in a less exact capacity. Staff reserves the right to hold contests, lotteries, or anything else they feel like so long as they are fair to all members. Additionally, there may be rewards for other purely out of character reasons, such as a thread being of incredible quality, helping out on the site, or to celebrate a holiday. Under no circumstances outside of complete site re-balancing should shards ever be taken away without an extremely good reason. The only reason I can think of at the time of writing would be if a word count was done improperly and rewards were given incorrectly in the first place. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//What Can I Write? (AR) [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Anything! Any thread that you write, no matter whether there is combat or not is eligible to earn Grail Shards. The goal here is to encourage everyone to write, nothing more. Even if you want to run a thread for others (DMing) and not actively use your own characters you will still gain rewards. In those cases the DM will be allowed to assign their rewards to any of their characters. Here's a few ideas for types of threads that you can write:
[attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Spending Grail Shards (AR) [attr="class","paracontentfull"]There is, however, one extremely good reason that Grail Shards will leave your possession. Wishes. The main purpose of the Grail Shards is that they can grant wishes. There are many different types of wishes that can be made. Below is a non-exhaustive list of wishes. If you want to make a custom wish, you can, but note that your outcome will be purely up to the whims of staff, and its result will depend on how many shards you sacrifice for that wish. Generally speaking, wishes will render shards of the Grail inert and worthless. Power - This is the most simple wish, and is the wish you use to "level up." By wishing on any number of grail shards you can trade them at a 1:1 ratio for Stat Ranks or Core Skill Ranks. They can be traded 1:2 for Grail Skill Ranks, or a Spell/Technique slot, up to the maximum of:
Talent - A rarity, this wish does not render Grail Shards inert, but rather imbues them with the power to grant specific skills to whomever wields them. The shards can be carried on one's person, fashioned into jewelry, or even embedded in one's skin. These are the Grail Shards used for Grail Skill Ranks. Do-Over - For the cost of a single shard, one can reset all their Talent shards back to their original state, allowing them to be re-attuned to other skills or used for other wishes. Change - At an ever-increasing cost, one can change significant aspects of their existence. Whether it is their life's story, the color of their hair, their personality, or even the nature of their Noble Phantasm, anything found in their profile can be changed with this wish. It costs a single shard the first time, but doubles in cost with each time the same character makes this wish. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Obtaining a Noble Phantasm as a Magus (AR) [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Yes, it is possible to obtain a Noble Phantasm as a Magus, but the process is not exactly easy. In fact it is arguably one of the hardest things to accomplish in the midst of the Infinite Grail War. Below are the milestones, in order, that must be achieved in order for a Magus to obtain a Noble Phantasm.
