[attr="class","sectionheaderbg"] [attr="class","sectionheader"]//About Stats [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Stats are a necessary evil on this forum. The quantification of different levels of power allow us to more clearly examine what happens in a battle and give us a means to compare one character to another in a meaningful way without as much room for argument. Someone with A rank strength is stronger than someone with E rank strength, no matter how much plot armor is involved. That said, the stat system is to be used as a set of guidelines, and should be ignored if everyone involved believes it makes the story better. They exist purely to help provide structure to the setting and to help avoid conflicts between two characters both claiming to be "the strongest ever." A theme you will see throughout this page is the idea of "- and +" levels of ranks. All stats are ranked like canon, from F-A (and EX above that) but you can also have a "- or +" attached to it. A "-" rank, such as "C-" indicates that you are just barely at the threshold to be considered that rank. With no modifier, you are solidly in the middle of feats for that rank. With a "+' modifier it means you are the upper edge of what can be accomplished at that rank, but have not quite reached the level required for the rank above it. The general idea of comparison between various values is as follows. Again, please note these are guidelines only. If you are within the same rank, but one is a "-" such as a C vs as C-, then the C will have a very slight edge that may only be noticeable after several instances. A C- vs a C+ will be immediately noticeable, but will only have the impact of a slight edge over the course of an entire battle. A full rank difference, such as C vs B, will be noticed immediately, and will provide a slight edge in all comparisons. The C rank would struggle a bit to keep up with the the B Rank, but such a gap could be overcome by superior writing skill or other factors. A two rank difference, such as C vs A, will shape the course of a battle. A C rank clashing against an A rank will have to think twice before taking action. If they attempt to simply overpower the A rank, they will lose the fight. Creative strategy, an advantage in a different stat, or perhaps a unique noble phantasm, that is what it may take to overcome this difference. A three or more rank difference, such as C vs EX or D vs A, is virtually insurmountable. If you engage in a direct conflict with this large of a gap it will almost exclusively require a Noble Phantasm to turn the tide. It is theoretically possible to overcome a situation like this through other means, but this is a MAJOR gap in powers. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Strength [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Strength is your character's physical Strength. It is their ability to inflict melee damage, as well as their ability to take a beatdown. In addition, Strength also influences your endurance for physical tasks. The chart below serves as a guideline for what kind of damage a character with one strength stat would deal to another character. There are obvious exceptions that can be written, such as a sword strike decapitating someone, but if players cannot agree on how much damage something would deal, then the chart below should be used. This list assumes the attacker has Rank C strength and indicates how much damage a solid blow with a weapon would deal to a defender of the following ranks. It can be scaled up or down as the attacker's strength changes. EX - No Damage (three full rank disadvantage) A - Minor (two full rank disadvantage) B - Moderate (one full rank disadvantage) C - Moderate (Same Rank) D - Moderate (one full rank advantage) E - Major (two full rank advantage) F - Fatal (three full rank advantage) Strength comparisons aside, let's get into what each stat rank equates to. If you are ever unfortunate enough to have F-rank Strength, you are literally too weak to pump blood through your veins. This is fatal. At a mere E- rank Strength, you are barely strong enough to act in combat. This is a child's level of Strength. At E rank Strength, you are an average, out of shape human. You can do day to day tasks without significant effort, but you cannot accomplish anything remarkable. Even the weight of a blade in your hand is not something you are used to, and will tire you out after a short exertion. After achieving E+ rank Strength is when you are truly impressive though. This is the pinnacle of human Strength, and the highest that a normal human can hope to achieve without supernatural intervention. This is the Strength of a powerlifter, bodybuilder, and football player all in one. At D rank Strength you are simply better than human. This is the peak of the Strength of the animal kingdom. Okay, this excludes edge cases like whales, but generally speaking someone with D rank Strength could literally go arm wrestle a bear and come out on top. With the aide of a bladed weapon, they could cut into rocks and metal, and thinner pieces would fall in a single swing. C rank Strength begins the supernatural feats. At this point, you have achieved Strength, durability, and endurance beyond what a normal human is capable of. This would include feats such as stomps that crack pavement and laughing off punches from a normal human. Someone with C rank Strength can punch straight through cinder blocks, and laugh off normally traumatic physical damage such as getting hit by a car. With a bladed weapon, they could cut straight through a steel girder, and a blunt weapon could pulverize cinder blocks into dust. When B rank Strength is reached, even some supernatural foes are left in the dust. At this level even a simple clash of blades will tear up pavement from the clashing forces. At this level a solid hit can send an opponent flying straight through a wall with ease. A raw punch or blunt weapon can manage to destroy an entire wall, and one hit in the right place can topple a small building or crush a shipping container. The upper limit is A rank Strength. There is no force stronger than this, bar EX rank. These attacks are strong enough to send out shockwaves when two of them collide, and such a clash of attacks can send a normal human flying even if they are standing a hundred feet away. Even when they don't hit directly, a mere narrow miss from an attack at this level carries enough force with it to bend steel beams and kill normal humans. Even worse, a direct hit can send tremors through the ground forcing the ground itself to buckle and fly towards the opponent. At this level, raw power is almost immeasurable, and some truly creative uses of raw Strength are possible. An untrained eye would likely assume that your strikes are the result of magic, and entire city blocks may vanish as combatants with strength at this level fight. Individual attacks may topple a skyscraper. Then, of course, there is EX rank. This is the upper limit on the upper limit. At EX rank strength you are truly absurd. A single punch will instantly crumble a skyscraper and put a hole in the one behind it. A good blow may take a chunk out of a mountain or blast out a cater big enough that everything around it looks like a hill. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Agility [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Agility is how fast you are able to move. It also influences your stamina for tasks related to movement. Want to know how much F rank agility sucks? Try being literally unable to move. Spoiler alert: if you can't move, that means your heart and lungs aren't moving either. This, of course, means death. Only a slight step better than that is E- rank agility. This is the rank of an old man who takes his sweet time, and leans on his cane. You're technically functional, but even day to day tasks will take a long time, and tire you quickly. At E rank agility, you are at the level of an average out of shape human. You can run around for a bit, and if you hit the deck fast enough you might even be able to dodge an attack or two! Upon reaching E+ rank agility you are a true specialist in agility compared to the average human. This is the level of Usain Bolt, but additionally, characters at this level have tremendous stamina for movement. They are definitely capable of running a marathon. Of course that would leave them exhausted, and more strenuous activity like fast-paced combat will have them tire in a massively shorter period of time. With D rank agility you have passed the level that a human can achieve. At this point you have reached the point where the only valid comparison are animals. This is the agility of a cheetah. At full sprint, no human can escape without aid of machinery. Even a light jog is enough for you to keep up with a trained athlete's run. Once C rank agility is reached, your character has left the realm of mortal comparison. At this point, your agility is on par with a sports car and you'll likely tire from lack of sleep before you feel your muscles ache from a run. B rank agility is the point at which trying to keep up with someone's movements becomes really challenging for a normal human. Their movements are nothing more than blurred lines and their weapons seem to be in two places at once. Those who manage to reach A rank agility are literally too fast for the eye to follow. Sure, those with excellent awareness or high agility can manage to track them but to the average human their movements are practically teleportation. Beyond that is EX rank agility. This is an even more absurd level, where even weak heroic spirits will be unable to follow your movements. Your combat agility is high enough that a normal human simply cannot defend themselves against you. Your travel agility is enough to blast past the fastest crafts men can make and your acceleration is instantaneous. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Endurance [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Here at Infinite Grail War, we have worked hard to design a system where players should not feel as if they can never take damage from their opponent. A battle should be an exchange of blows, and as the battle progresses both sides should take some degree of damage. Damage can either be explained by comparing the attacker and defender’s strength stat or as a property of a spell. Depending on how powerful an attack is, it may leave a wound of varying degrees as explained below. All wounds should be given a rating from the list below as healing spells, skills, and how long you can stay fighting depend on the severity of wounds. If a specific area (the same limb, torso, or the head) receives multiple lower class wounds, they will be collectively treated as one wound of the next rank up. For example, a moderate slash wound to your broken right arm (also a moderate wound) would be treated as major wound overall. The levels of wounds are listed below: No Damage – While objectively not a wound, it is worth mentioning that some attacks will cause no damage. Either the defender simply has too much strength compared to the attacker, their armor might absorb the damage, their magical resistance may prevent the effect of a spell, or it might just be blocked outright. Minor – These wounds provide a minor hindrance, but are still plenty painful. These can range anywhere from a papercut to a first degree burn, but can also include things as serious as a very slight fracture or a sprained ankle. Three minor wounds in the same area is considered a moderate wound. Moderate – Wounds of this category significantly impair use of the injured area, but do not make it impossible. Two moderate wounds on the same area are considered a major wound. Examples would include second degree burns, deep cuts, broken bones, or a concussion. Major – These wounds are severely debilitating, but do not kill someone. A normal human (or magus) will typically be out of a fight from a single one of these wounds within a few posts at best, and a single major wound to a vital area is fatal. A servant can generally take two of these before going down. Both of these can be extended by skills. Example Major wounds include complete loss of use of a limb, destruction of an organ, third/forth degree burns, truly massive slash or stab wounds. Fatal – Wounds that are Fatal will kill someone. Depending on where the wound is, it may be instant (a severed head) or it may take some time (bleeding out from a stab to the gut). If character death has not been permitted, then a Fatal wound will instead result in the character losing consciousness until they can be healed in character or until the end of the thread (barring cinematic outros). The endurance stat determines how many wounds you can tolerate before they will die (or pass out in a non-death enabled thread). How many wounds a given rank can take is listed below. A fatal wound will kill someone regardless of their Endurance stat, but Fatal wounds should not be a commonplace thing. F = dead E- = 1 minor E = no change E+ = 1 moderate D- = 1 major D = no change D+ = 1 major 1 minor C- = 1 major 1 moderate C = no change C+ = 2 major B- = 2 major 1 minor B = no change B+ = 2 major 1 moderate A- = 3 major A = 3 major 1 minor A+ = 3 major 1 moderate EX- = 4 major EX = 4 major 1 minor EX+ = 4 major 1 moderate [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Magical Power [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Got magic? This determines how strong your magical abilities are. Both magical offensive and defensive abilities are governed by this stat. There's a first time for everything. With F rank Magical Power, you aren't dead! Unless of course you're a summoned spirit. Spirits are magical summons and without any Magical Power they are unable to maintain their form. Humans without any Magical Power just cannot use magic. Note that spells can be used while at the "-" version of a rank, but your character will have some trouble with it compared to a more powerful caster. At E- rank Magical Power, both mages and spirits are able to perform the most minor of magical feats. These are cantrips. An example would be a fire elemental spell that lights a candle. Strictly speaking, this allows the use of F rank spells. With E rank Magical Power, mages are capable of using Rank E spells. This level allows for the most basic of offensive and defensive magical effects. Things like a basic pumpkin sized fireball are possible now. D rank Magical Power allows mages to utilize magic that actually threatens to be lethal against untrained opponents. A D rank fireball spell would be large enough to engulf a human in flames and powerful enough to cover them in burns. D Rank spells are available. Once C rank Magical Power is reached, C rank spells are available, and boy do they pack a wallop. Magical abilities with this level of power threaten damage enough to scar the environment around the target. Sticking with the fireball analogy, this level of spell could burn straight through a few trees and still roast a target behind it. When B rank Magical Power has been reached, B rank spells are available. These spells amp it up quite a bit, as a B rank fireball could roast a whole house and everyone inside it in a single blast! At A rank Magical Power, you are a nightmare for anyone to face in combat. A rank spells are the stuff of legends. These are powers that annihilate entire city blocks in a single blast. If you manage to obtain EX rank magical power you have transcended magecraft. You can now can EX rank spells, which approaches the realm of True Magic. Entire cities or mountains may vanish from a fireball at this level. [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Magical Capacity [attr="class","paracontentfull"]Magical Capacity Want to use magic? Not without any remaining Magical Capacity. This stat determines how many times you can cast spells without rest. All spells have a fixed mana cost, which is on the Spells page. All of your Magical Capacity will return after an extended rest of at least 6 hours. Refer to the list below to translate ranks into mana amounts. F = 0 mana E- = 100 mana E = 150 mana E+ = 200 mana D- = 300 mana D = 350 mana D+ = 400 mana C- = 500 mana C = 550 mana C+ = 600 mana B- = 650 mana B = 700 mana B+ = 750 mana A- = 800 mana A = 900 mana A+ = 1000 mana EX- = 1100 mana EX = 1250 mana EX+ = 1500 mana [attr="class","subheaderbgfull"] [attr="class","subheader"]//Noble Phantasm [attr="class","paracontentfull"]This stat is pretty dang straightforward. It determines how strong your Noble Phantasm is. Your ranks in this stat unlock various ranks of abilities for your Noble Phantasm, as well as how many points you have to spend on your Noble Phantasm. For more details about the Noble Phantasm system, please refer to: the Servant thread. F = 0 E- = 2, and E rank effects available. E = 3 E+ = 4 D- = 5, and D rank effects available. D = 6 D+ = 7 C- = 8, and C rank effects available. C = 9 C+ = 10 B- = 11, and B rank effects available. B = 12 B+ = 13 A- = 14, and A rank effects available. A = 15 A+ = 16 EX- = 17, and EX rank effects available. EX = 18 EX+ = 20 |
